Windham Baseball to join Cal Ripken for 2018!

WBSL Parents & Players,

During our September meeting, the WBSL board voted unanimously to change our baseball charter from Little League to Cal Ripken starting in the 2018 season. This decision was made after several discussions with board members and this past season’s tournament & recreation head coaches. All agreed that there are several benefits to changing charters which include providing more opportunities for our youth baseball players to experience real baseball during recreation season and expanded summer tournament offerings. Additionally, Cal Ripken has close association with Babe Ruth baseball and will allow us to expand our offerings to include big diamond baseball for our 13-15 year old baseball players.

Based upon the decision to change charters, the board unanimously voted to refurbish our baseball fields at Griffin Park to prepare for this change in play. Field A & Zimmer Field are currently being transformed into multi-use fields which will allow both 46/60 play (same as Little League for players with league ages up to 11 yrs old) and 50/70 play (for Majors players aged 11 & 12). In addition, the infields are being completely replaced (new field mix and sod) to eliminate potential safety issues related to lips along the edges of the infield and other uneven surfaces. These fields have not been redone since they were established over 10 years ago and needed the work.

Cal Ripken does have a different age cutoff for players than what was in place for Little League. Below is a table that outlines the changes between the programs as we anticipate them for the 2018 season. No player will lose future eligibility as the league age cutoff date is moving back from August 31st to April 30th.

Configuring Anti-SPAM to Work with the WBSL Web Site

To make sure that you receive all emails from the WBSL, please add the email address to your address book and SPAM filter "white list". With some providers (such as Earthlink) you may need to add the address on their server to make sure your email gets through.

The WBSL recommends that all its members practice good Internet security. You should install anti-virus software, a firewall, and anti-spyware software. There are several commercially available packages that will do all this for you. Or, if you a little more adventurous, there are some good free alternatives for Windows users:

AVG Anti-virus by Grisoft

ZoneAlarm firewall from ZoneLabs

Spybot S&D from Safer Networking
